Our Board of Directors

APlus was created by the Cities of Darebin, Moreland and Yarra. While local governments established most Group Training Companies, APlus is the only one in Victoria where local government has continued its association and membership.

The Board has seven Directors and three Alternate Directors, four independent directors and three appointed-by-the-member councils. The three member directors have Alternate Directors, also appointed by the members.

Hon. Alan Brown, Chairman

Alan is an Independent Director of the Board and was appointed Chairman in 2000. He has a keen commitment to the welfare of apprentices and trainees, having begun his working life as an apprentice carpenter. Since his retirement from Victorian state politics, Alan has become a director on a number of not-for-profit Boards.

Michael Francis, Deputy Chairman

Michael has been an Independent Director of the Board since 1988. Michael is a local business owner and manager, running Pneuvay Engineering in Coburg. Michael also has a strong commitment to the apprenticeship system, having begun his working life as an apprentice Fitter and Turner.

Elizabeth Board, Independent Director

Elizabeth is an educator by profession, and has been a director since 2002. Elizabeth is the Director of Development at Camberwell Grammar School, and combines the responsibilities of this position with classroom teaching, as well as a number of other board positions. 

Kevin Breen, Independent Director

Kevin has been a Director at APlus since his initial appointment as Director representing the City of Darebin in 2000. On his retirement from local government, Kevin was elected as an Independent Director, and also sits on a number of other boards in the Northern region of Melbourne.

Councillor Gaetano Greco, Appointed Director

Councillor Greco was nominated as a Member Director by the City of Darebin on 28 October 2009. Gaetano is a keen local activist, and has been heavily involved in local affairs for many years.

Gerry Smith, Appointed Director

Gerry was appointed as a Full Director in 2011, following his service as Alternate Director for City of Moreland since 2008. Gerry is the Director of Human Resources at Moreland City Council.

Craig Kenny, Appointed Director

Craig has been a Director since 2006, firstly in the capacity of Alternate Director, then as Director for City of Yarra. Craig is the Director of Community Programs at City of Yarra

Michael Ballock

Appointed July 2010 – City of Darebin. Michael is the Director of Development and Amenity at City of Darebin.

Briare McElhone

Appointed April 2011 – City of Moreland. Briare is the Place Manager – Coburg, for Moreland City Council

Philip Mason

Appointed July 2008 – City of Yarra. Philip is the Finance Manager at City of Yarra
