On October 3 2011 Mission Australia celebrated the achievements of nearly 100 Trainees and Apprentices who have overcome adversity by gaining life and employment skills through Mission Australia’s Social Enterprise programs.
APlus Apprentice + Trainee Services has worked closely in a unique partnership with Mission Australia to mentor and employ the trainees and apprentices.
The Celebration Awards saw participants of Mission Australia’s Charcoal Lane, Greener Futures and Urban Renewal Social Enterprises awarded for showing extraordinary skill and strength to create positive and independent futures.
Mission Australia Chief Executive Officer Toby Hall said Social Enterprises – projects that combine a commercial business with personal support and training – were vital. “Social Enterprise plays an instrumental role in giving marginalised young people the skills and confidence to secure sustainable employment. Mission Australia is proud to run successful programs which are transforming so many lives by inspiring self-confidence and hope. It’s great to be able to recognise these programs’ participants because they have worked so hard to overcome severe barriers to mainstream employment,” he said.
The evening was a great success. APlus is very proud to partner with Mission Australia in Social Enterprise, and assist candidates who are prepared to make change for themselves - whether that is starting work for the first time, looking to get back into consistent work or deciding on a new career path.
APlus Employment Co-ordinator Troy Crellin acted as MC for the Awards, and is pictured below with trainees and apprentices from some of the Mission Australia/APlus projects.
